The Sun and Moon

Even after all this time, the Sun never says to the Earth,
“You owe me.”
Look what happens with a love like that.
It lights up the whole sky.

Hafiz

In the West
as the sun sets in the sea,
my heart settles
a smoldering ember
flickering in the ash

Seagulls ascend into the twilight
The dimly shaded veil
protecting and guiding
their flight

The farewell songs fade
in the distance
and I am reminded
of the peaceful melody
in my own

The sun has taken
it’s final breath
The moon has risen from behind
the shadows

Dusk is upon us

The balmy air is still
and our words hang
between the stars
glowing like fireflies
in
the
night
sky
